Antique Milk or Cream Can

Milk and cream cans are some of the most common dairy antiques. Until the adoption of farm bulk tanks and tanker trucks in the 1940's and 50's milk was stored, cooled and transported in cans.

Cream cans were smaller then milk cans since the cream was a more concentrated product. Cream cans came in 4, 8, 10 and 12 quart sizes. The lids were usually held on by a chain and some lids were designed to force the air out of the can to keep the cream from churning into butter during shipment. The cream can on auction is a 4 quart can. It is stamped with only G S. We believe this was a Golden State cream can.

Description:

  • Dimension; 13" tall, 3.5" 6 1/4" round at the base, tapering to 4" at the top.
  • Condition; FAIR to GOOD, Some scratches, dents and rust, no holes.

Many photos showing all sides and top. This is a nice cream can that is still able to hold liquids. Has minor dents on can and lid.
